Forum: texts Subject: Why so many "No title" books?

I've noticed that recently, there has been a large number of books being uploaded that show up as "No title." Many seem to originate from the University of Chicago "History of Religions Project." Several others are old college yearbooks. Still others are on various other subjects.

Now I realize that not everyone has an interest in all of these documents, but even those who have such interest should have at least a fighting chance of finding them.

So why don't they have titles associated with them?

Some of the books that you are seeing with no title were accidentally put into the Americana Collection and ended up in the RSS feed. Sorry for that. Another reason that some of these titles have [no title] is because when the item is entered into our system before being scanned we are unable to find a bibliographic record for the item. Not until later is a record entered by hand. We are currently working to curb less [notitle] items in the OpenSource collections.

Thank You,
Marcus

Many thanks. I suppose getting these titles in by hand must be tedious, but it is appreciated. I look forward to see what shows up.

Thank you for your understanding. We work hard to make sure that we are getting to you the best items that we can. Unfortunately we run into a few glitches in the system that we try to work out to make sure that we are not giving you a bunch of junk. It is a tremendous project with few people. Please thank the scanners in San Francisco, Toronto, Los Angeles, Illinois, and soon New York City. All of their hard work and dedication to bring you the best quality scans and for digitizing a vast wealth of information that will live on for generations should not be overlooked.

Thanks again,
Marcus Lucero

..and as a logical follow-up question, are there any plans to allow the community here the ability to help organize, categorize and detail the collections? Something like LibraryThing (librarything.com) .. aka web 2.0

Check out "Freesound" as well (google it), users can tag others sounds so they can find them in searches easier. Also, if fields in the product description are left blank or contain "adfgs fhs" they never make it live on the site.

I sent emails and made numerous posts about this but no one has addressed it that I am aware of. Good luck.
